The thermal cracking of Asphalt Ridge and -Sunnyside, Utah, bitumen was studied by Wenger, et al. (1) in the early 1950's. These studies were performed on bitumen which had been recovered via hot caustic water extraction followed by a solvent clarification step.
اقرأ المزيدBitumen, dense, highly viscous, petroleum-based hydrocarbon that is found in deposits such as oil sands and pitch lakes (natural bitumen) or is obtained as a residue of the distillation of crude oil (refined bitumen). In some areas, particularly in the United States, bitumen is often called
اقرأ المزيدClay minerals such as montmorillonite and kaolinite are considered as fine solids that could adversely affect bitumen extraction from oil sands. Colloidal forces between bitumen and fine clays and between bitumen and bitumen in the presence of montmorillonite clays were measured with an atomic force microscope.
اقرأ المزيدIt is demonstrated that bitumen can be separated from "water-wet" Alberta oil sands and "oil-wet" Utah oil sands using a so-called analogue ionic liquid (IL) based on deep eutectic mixtures of choline chloride and urea (ChCl/U) together with a diluent such as naphtha.
اقرأ المزيدThe change in colour of the black tar sand is an indication of high extraction efficiency. Hence, owing to high demand for conventional oil supply in the country and the urgent need for an alternative source of oil, the bitumen extract can serve as an alternative source of unconventional oil supply in Nigeria and feedstock in refineries.
اقرأ المزيدThe current state of knowledge on the fundamentals of bitumen recovery from Athabasca oil sands using water-based extraction methods is reviewed. Instead of investigating bitumen extraction as a black box, the bitumen extraction process has been discussed and analyzed as individual steps: Oil sand lump size reduction, …
اقرأ المزيدCrude bitumen/tar sand is obtained from the processing of crude oil, and is often further refined by solvent extraction to obtain high-quality bitumen. It is an affordable option due to its high availability, but quality is not consistent as it depends on the quality of crude oil used in its production. ... For example, if you are looking for ...
اقرأ المزيدThe digital twin paradigm, applied to bitumen extraction from oil sands, has illuminated advancements in understanding and orchestrating the dynamic complexities of large-scale operations. This research shows a four-layer PSV model aptly mirrors the intrinsic behaviors of real processes. By analyzing the influences of inputs and …
اقرأ المزيد2.2 Past Studies on Bitumen Extraction in Nigeria . A study on Solvent extraction of bitumen from Nigerian tar sands using toluene was investigated [5]. Pulverization of the tar sands followed by agglomeration in a mechanical shaker resulted in spherical agglomerates having higher bitumen contents than the mined tar sand.
اقرأ المزيدCanada has the world's third largest oil reserves, mostly located in the oil sands. Although oil sands and shale deposits are found all over the world, the Alberta oil sands are water-wet, making bitumen extraction feasible using just hot water.Learn more about this unique deposit, and some of its chemical and physical properties.
اقرأ المزيدThe aim of this study is to evaluate solvent technique of subsurface extraction of bitumen from Nigerian tar sands which is cost-effective and operationalefficient. This work covers the use of an already established solvent as a pivot and two other new solvents, and comparing their results in terms of efficiency. ...
اقرأ المزيدBitumen-sand set applications emerged some thirty years ago from the defunct Hastings Brick Company in New York. This setting technique was used as a means to ... with the manufacturer s directions and be thoroughly mixed before application. The bituminous setting bed is a mixture of asphalt cement and coarse sand (or fine aggregate). The mix
اقرأ المزيدIn the present paper, the kinetics of the water extraction of bitumen from tar sand and crude oil or residual fuel oil from model contaminated soils under the effect of ultrasound is studied. The influence of process temperature, ultrasound power, the nature, and properties of the components of hete …
اقرأ المزيدThe Batch Extraction Unit (BEU) is used to extract bitumen froth from oil sand at bench scale The BEU is a useful aid to determine extractability based on ore quality, chemical additives and operating parameters with appropriate bitumen/water/solids analyses.
اقرأ المزيدBitumen is a dark brown to black colour glue material majorly used in the construction of bound layers of pavements. It is treated as a hazardous material because of its higher PAH (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) content and presence of hydrogen sulphide. These characteristics of conventional bitumen affect humans as well as the …

Unlike conventional ILs, these eutectics are relatively cheap and …
اقرأ المزيدThe environmental impact of the oil sands is an issue that has been extremely divisive. As with the extraction and use of any fossil fuel, negative environmental effects arise as a result of the extraction, upgrading, and processing of bitumen from the oil sands. Although some steps are being taken to reduce the severity of these impacts - such as …
