Accurate analysis of Hf in presence of Zr is essential for such recovery processes. A Total reflection X-ray Fluorescence (TXRF) method for chemical characterization of Hf containing solution samples, obtained during the various steps of recovery process of hafnium nitrate from the Zr purification process, was developed.
اقرأ المزيدThe lowest weight distribution coefficients of hafnium and zirconium on Diphonix® resin were obtained using a 0.25 M ammonium oxalate solution. Its use gave satisfying results with a very good level of the metals recovery in dynamic studies.
اقرأ المزيدThe recovery of hafnium takes place during the refinement of zirconium where nuclear-grade pure zirconium is required. Without a nuclear industry, it is likely that no hafnium would be recovered because its low concentration in zirconium metal would otherwise make its recovery too costly.
اقرأ المزيدNuclear-grade zirconium (Zr) and hafnium (Hf) play an inevitably strategic role in the sustainable development of the nuclear industry. However, the efficient separation of Zr ions and Hf ions is still problematic due to their approximate ionic radii.

اقرأ المزيدThe Zr-Hf separation reactor is designed to be followed by an electro-refining cell with the molten hafnium-free zirconium alloy as the anode to recover pure zirconium metal and the remaining Sn-Cu/Cu melt will be circulated back to the ZrO 2 electrolysis for production of low melting Zr-Cu-Sn alloy. From engineering point of view, …
اقرأ المزيدMore than 99% recovery of both zirconium and hafnium is obtained with all the proposed adsorbents which indicate their usage for extraction and recovery of zirconium and hafnium from nitric acid medium. Column studies have elucidated that separation of zirconium fom hafnium is possible using AAPPFSG adsorbent.

اقرأ المزيدMetal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are highly versatile materials that find applications in several fields. Highly stable zirconium/hafnium-based MOFs were recently introduced and nowadays represent a rapidly growing family. Their unique and intriguing properties make them privileged materials and outstanding candidates in heterogeneous …

However, the efficient separation of Zr ions and Hf ions is still problematic due to their approximate ionic radii. This work, provides a novel strategy for separating Zr ions and Hf ions by solvent extraction …
اقرأ المزيدZirconium and hafnium are corrosion-resistant metals that are widely used in the chemical and nuclear industries. Most zirconium is consumed in the form of the main ore mineral zircon (ZrSiO4, or as zirconium oxide or other zirconium chemicals. Zirconium and hafnium are both refractory lithophile elements that have nearly …
اقرأ المزيدIlmenite (FeTiO 3), altered ilmenite, and rutile (TiO 2) are important titanium feedstock minerals, while zircon ((Hf,Zr)SiO 4) is an important source of zirconia (zirconium dioxide – ZrO 2), zirconium (Zr) and hafnium (Hf). Due to their higher density (or specific gravity), these minerals are commonly referred to as valuable heavy minerals ...
اقرأ المزيدNuclear grade zirconium and hafnium are important materials in nuclear power plants, which are usually produced with solvent extraction and separation technology. In this paper, the preferential extracting hafnium was successfully achieved by the selective complexation of the selected organic acids. Hydrochloric acid concentration, organic …
اقرأ المزيدBesides, nuclear grade hafnium (with zirconium content below 2 %) plays an important role in the safety operation of reactors as control rod material [5], [6]. Regrettably, zirconium and hafnium coexist commonly in nature, and are difficult to separate due to their similar physicochemical properties.
اقرأ المزيدRemarkable separation and selectivity of zirconium over hafnium and its complete recovery. Operation condition is mild (pH 0.5–3.0) in contrast to the existing harsh conditions. Difference between the polarizability of Zr and Hf complexes governs their separation process.
