During the 1770's the quarrying of limestone and subsequent burning in the still evident lime kilns was an important industry. The quicklime was cargoed to Scotland mainly for fertiliser. Beadnell Harbour and Lime Kilns

Built in 1798 by John Wood, the harbour also maintained by Wood, serviced the export of the lime produced by the kilns. The kilns ar now owned by the National Trust, and from the look of it are used by local fisherman to store their crab/lobster pots, and provide shelter to windswept visitors. Worth 15-20 minutes of your time.
