Caspah Kamunda's radioactive hazard assessment of gold tailings in South Africa showed that the calculated averages of the external (Hex) and internal hazards (Hin) of the tailings were 2.4 and 4.5, respectively, which are higher than the standard values and pose a threat to the health of residents in the region (Kamunda et al., 2016).
